May Favourites

May was a month of quiet shifts, colour work, new tools, and a project we have been building behind the scenes. Here is what we kept returning to across our branding and design work this month.

Favourite Brand

Areté's website uses a warm bone-white base paired with a beautiful moss green that runs consistently across every page, and the packaging sits within the same muted palette, so the whole brand feels like one cohesive thing. The label design is particularly strong, a detailed botanical illustration framed within a clean emblem logo that manages to feel intricate without cluttering the packaging. The photography is subtle and lets the product lead. It is a strong example of what brand identity looks like when every decision is pulling in the same direction, and it informed some of our thinking on packaging and branding projects we were working on this month.

Favourite Colour

Aloe Wash sits between green and grey with enough warmth to avoid reading as clinical, which has made it useful as a secondary tone alongside off-white and warm stone, or set against deep forest green for contrast. It carries weight within a palette without competing with the primary brand mark, which made it practical for packaging we've been working on this month.

Favourite Font

Gill Sans Nova Book came up repeatedly across branding and web design work this month. The Book weight reads well at small sizes and holds its own at display scale without additional styling. It pairs cleanly with serif typefaces and worked well on projects where the brief called for something with personality but enough restraint to sit within a refined, feminine brand world without softening it too far.

Favourite Mockup

May marked the point where client briefs started moving toward summer, and the La Mer collection covered that shift well. The coastal scenes gave packaging concepts the right context for that period, where clients are briefing for warmer months and need visuals that reflect that direction. We used them across creative direction and concept presentations throughout the month, and the consistent lighting across the collection meant the scenes worked together without any adjustment needed, also meaning we couldn't pick just one as a favourite.

Favourite Tool

Notion is our permanent studio workspace, where projects, briefs, and tasks live. This month it earned its place as a monthly favourite because we have been building something on it for our customers, and working inside the platform as a product creator rather than just a user gave us a different appreciation for what it can do.
